Just when you thought the soul had been ripped from electronic music – “The Harlem Shake” takes hold of the world, a song so terrible I wouldn’t play it as a protest at my enemies funeral. We are delivered from evil and led not into temptation with this angelic five mins and nine seconds. Yes Chris Malionchak you are ‘my’ consolation. As the rhythmic chords are plucked and the title of the song pours into my ears like wine poured from the bottles at the Marriage in Cana, this is truly a song for the ages. In dance music terms that can be between six months and ten years. But still, I imagine this being cained at the end of everyone’s sets in Ibiza this year, from geezer’s in the piss up bars to the majestic few who spin in the mighty super clubs.
And I ask who wouldn’t want to feel six lines and half a gram of MDMA pulsing through your veins while this plays loud and long over the speakers or in the back ground of a six am after party? You watch the sun sink or rise, hopefully surrounded by your friends and loved ones. Yup Ibiza in 2013 this track his coming, coming on every DJ’s sound card who steps off an Easy Jet flight. Coming just like thousands of boyfriends cheating on their partners.
I will also be championing this, waving the flag like a health inspector at an abattoir. Chris Malinchak has constructed a pure and beautiful lesson in house music that has mass appeal, but will quite possibly appear with that underground vibe. Known only to us, the lovers of house music and everyone who visits the white Isles……
Well actually more people can be added to that list as Pete Tong featured it on his essential selection (if that still means anything) and even the mighty Spoony dropped it on his Ministry Of Sound radio programme, so maybe we are fourth or fifth inline but lets all kowtow to Chris Malinchak and the Sun Gods as they’ve been so good to us.
