RAC Mix of ‘Trying to be cool’, and surely that’s what we’re all trying for in our lives. Billions of little Fonzie’s combing our hair in the mirror and secretly saying ‘Hey’. Phoenix do seem to get lots of remixes within the house music community. The chances are if you’re a -EDM DJ- you were probably aware of this French band from Versailles before you heard any of their original output. Apparently they made some kind of ‘treaty’ with dance music. (that was terrible, shoot me). That thought brings us nicely to the plodding melody and the heartbreaking yearning chorus of ‘Trying To Be Cool’ was Thomas Mars mining some dark embedded teenage memory, I suspect yes.
The second track an RAC original ‘Hollywood’ released last year is coated in Nu Disco spices and served with a very catchy chorus of ‘Hollywood’ . Shall we say an 80’s early 90’s vibe on this 3 mins and 16 secs. I am reminded of ‘Hockey’ and ‘Song Away’ as they both evoke picture post card memories of a not so distant past that didn’t necessarily exists, perhaps in the sugar coated vaults of your mind or maybe a Steven Spielberg movie from the era. Happy Times!

From Portland Origan USA, real name André Allen Anjos. RAC means ‘Remix Artist Collective’. Andre and his pals began remixing all kinds of artists from Lana Del Ray to Mando Diao yes even Mando Diao famous as bread in main land Europe but in English speaking countries they have been unable to gain a secure foot hold. An extensive RAC remix list can be found by clicking this link over 9 hours of material and to be completely honest I haven’t listened to even half of it, I have found in the past that if I wanted to find a cheeky remix of a current pop song RAC would have done it.
