Bill Burr’s Podcast

Most Mondays I listen to a host of Podcats from my subscriptions.  One that always sticks out in my mind is “The Monday Morning Podcast” with comedian and actor Bill Burr.  Hailing from Boston, USA he is now very much a staple part of the comedy circuit in the US and also here in the UK.  Previously known as “The White Guy” from The Chappelle Show or one of the “Better Call Sal’s” hench men in Breaking Bad.  His acting skills have also landed him parts in many movies. “Good for you Bill, good for you”.

“You C*nts”

Burr’s frank and and ever so slightly imposing stage manner make for genuinely hilarious stand up.  A man who publicly gets to grips with his life, he routinely examines day to day tasks with his hostile charm.  In his podcast he chips away at life’s problems particularly in the “Letters” section, often telling advice seekers to “Go Fuck Yourself” or something along those lines, depending really on the questions asked.  The “Go Fuck Yourself” line has become a catch phrase of sorts.  Also, in part the inspiration for our event “Go Funk Yourself”.  In a recent segment Bill mentions Glastonbury festival and Yoko Ono’s performance.  He is no stranger to commenting on Yoko.  (See his keenly observed commentary of John Lennon and Chuck Berry with Yoko.*)   It is this style of “chew the fat comedy” that has made him widely popular, his observations are clever yet at the same time simple and blatantly on the nose.  He muses on many subjects from sports to gay marriage and most recently America’s attempt to embrace “The Beautiful Game” Football via The World cup  (Soccer if you live in the US).  So we are happy to embrace Bill back and his frank and life affirming routine that translates so well into the one hour and change Monday morning “Fuck You” fest.
